A designer that’s been there
I figured it may be nice to explain a little bit about who I am and what I’m doing here in the interiors space.
First of all, nice to meet you! My name is Meg Hewitt. I am the owner and principal designer of MHI. I am blessed to be a mother of two of the most precious little beings- Lettie & Arlo and a wife to the man who originated the term “jack-of-all-trades” (I’m convinced)- my right-hand - Collin. If you know me, then you know how passionate I am about these three - so might as well get acquainted with them now. They are a big reason for this design platform.
Ever since I can remember, I have had an obsession for design in many capacities. Whether it was rearranging my bedroom over a thousand times growing up, changing my hair color multiple times a year, studying design mediums in college, reinventing my thrifted wardrobe, designing logos and apparel for local companies on the side, painting - repainting- and painting some more… the list goes on and on. However, I didn’t discover my true love for interior design (outside the weekly episode of Fixer Upper) until we got the keys to our own home in February 2019. Mic drop.
My husband, Collin, and I had always dreamed of taking on the thrill of a fixer upper- and we finally got that opportunity. Though Collin had years of experience in the building and carpentry industry and I in the design space, there was still so much we had to learn in order to make our vision a reality. After four years of pouring our blood, sweat, tears and love into every inch of our home, we have learned so many skills to create beautiful spaces without going into debt. Everything is expensive when you own a home (Can I get an Amen?!). But, what I’ve learned, is that that doesn’t mean the design of your home needs to reflect your small or “lack of” budget.
Let’s be honest, having spaces in your home where you feel a renewed sense of energy, peace and beauty are not only fun to have- but, necessary!
Do you have spaces in your home you’re embarrassed for guests to see? Been there.
Places where you instantly feel stressed when you walk in the room? Yep, me too.
Rooms that may have inspired the the popular term “cringe-worthy”? Again, right there with you.
Take it from someone who has experienced all of those same emotions about their home - things don’t have to be that way. I am so excited to finally have the opportunity to work with clients, design dream spaces and share the knowledge I’ve learned in the DIY & renovation process to truly make a difference in the way they feel about their home - big or small.
